Freak Folk Delight

Michael Witt captures joy, spirit, and groove all within a four minute timestamp. His music will lift your soul and lead your body to the dance floor. I’ve heard it said that every person has a talent and that it is their responsibility to share a representation of that talent with the world - Witt has most certainly found his, and how lucky are we that he has decided to share it with us.

WHAT IS FREAK FOLK?

Freak folk is a subgenre of folk music that draws on psychedelic influences and embraces a wide range of musical sounds. The tradition of freak folk began in the 1960’s with artists like Donovan and Vashti Bunyan, and experienced a revival in the new millennium with Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, and others. Freak Folk primarily uses acoustic instruments, but welcomes musical exploration through eclectic instrumentation, improvisation, idyllic and abstract lyricism, and more. Michael’s latest release Rose Smoking Flower Boy is a timeless body of work, one that follows in the tradition of Freak Folk in a way that reintroduces the genre to new audiences. Rose Smoking Flower Boy draws on influences such as The Beatles, Grateful Dead, and Joni Mitchell to weave a sonic tapestry that invites the listener into Michael’s world. The album is a sunshine daydream that only Michael could create.
